In the early hours of New Year's Day 2017, the life of 28-year-old Luz Rosado was tragically cut short in Hartford, Connecticut. The incident unfolded at approximately 3:47 a.m. in the area of Park Street and Broad Street, a neighborhood known as Frog Hollow. An officer on patrol witnessed a man draw a gun and fire into the driver's side window of a parked car. The victim of this sudden violence was Luz Rosado, who was struck in the chest.
She was rushed to Hartford Hospital but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m.
The shooting was directly observed by a Hartford police officer who immediately intervened. After the gunman fired the shot, he got into a nearby vehicle. The officer ordered him to drop his weapon, but the suspect did not comply and instead fled on foot down Park Street. A chase ensued, and the officer was able to apprehend the man. The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Ulises Robles of West Hartford. It was later revealed that Robles was a convicted felon with multiple prior arrests in Hartford.
Following his capture, Ulises Robles was charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He was held on a $1 million bond. Just two days before the fatal shooting of Rosado, Robles had been arrested and charged with four felonies, including attempted murder and criminal possession of a firearm. Five months prior to that, he had been charged with two felonies, including assault with a firearm, stemming from a separate incident in June 2016. The shooting did not appear to be domestic in nature. Luz Rosado was a mother to two children.
