In the early morning hours of July 30, 2019, tragedy struck in Chattanooga, Tennessee, ending the life of 37-year-old Joel DeShawn Ervin, a Black male known as a talented barber and a father. The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Hamilton Pines apartment complex on Pinewood Avenue, a place Ervin was residing. He had just returned from a quick trip to a convenience store and was getting out of his vehicle when he was ambushed.
