In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the life of 15-year-old Tremone Franklin was tragically cut short. On July 20, 2025, police responded to calls about gunfire near the 1700 block of Read Avenue and discovered the male teenager's body on the street. The community was left in mourning following this violent act, which marked the city's ninth homicide of the year. Witnesses later recounted hearing several gunshots and seeing an individual get out of a gray sedan and open fire.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, leading to the apprehension of two suspects. Authorities arrested 18-year-olds Malik Isaiah Allen and Mauricio Velasquez, charging them both with second-degree murder. During the investigation, Allen admitted to firing his weapon at least twice during the incident. While two suspects were in custody, the Chattanooga Police Department continued to search for a third individual believed to be involved in the fatal shooting.
In the wake of his death, those who knew Tremone came together to remember a young life lost too soon. A candlelight vigil was held at Brainerd High School, where he was a student. His mother, Rashika, described him as a dedicated student and a loving family member. Known affectionately as 'Money,' he was remembered for his smile and his kind, caring nature.
