On March 23, 2023, 25-year-old Keenan "KJ" McLaurin was found deceased from a gunshot wound near his residence on Hosey Mikell Road in Bassfield, Mississippi. The Jefferson Davis County Sheriff's Department received reports of gunfire around 4 a.m. A deputy responded but did not observe any unusual activity at that time. Later that morning, during a welfare check in the same area, deputies discovered McLaurin's body, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
