In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Bassfield, Mississippi, the sounds of a lively bonfire party with around 200 attendees were pierced by the echo of gunshots. Just after midnight on December 1, 2024, multiple calls alerted the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff's Department to the shooting. When deputies arrived at the gathering on Bassfield Cemetery Road, they found 43-year-old Rodrigus Damario Adams of nearby Carson lying deceased in the driveway.
Adams, a Black male also known as 'Slice,' had been fatally shot.
Despite the large number of people present at the party, investigators were met with a wall of silence. Witnesses reported hearing two or three shots fired, but no one claimed to have seen the incident take place. The Jefferson Davis County Sheriff's Department is actively investigating the homicide and has identified two possible suspects, though no arrests have been made. In an effort to encourage witnesses to come forward, Crimestoppers has offered a reward for any information that leads to an arrest in connection with the shooting. Authorities have urged anyone with knowledge of the events to contact them directly.
Rodrigus Adams was a laborer and a member of Shorts Chapel Methodist Church in Bassfield. Remembered as an avid fan of the Jefferson Davis High School Jaguars, he enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his family and friends. His death has left his family, including his father and several siblings, seeking answers and justice in a case that remains an ongoing investigation.
