23-year-old Aleriq Smith. During the course of the investigation, Smith reportedly confessed to his involvement in the shootings at both locations. His stated motive was a desire for revenge, stemming from the earlier death of a friend. Smith specifically admitted to firing shots at both the scene where Rollins was killed and the residence of Charlene Allbright.
Aleriq Smith was arrested on January 26, 2020. He faced multiple charges, including the felony murder of Charlene Allbright. Following his arrest, the legal process moved forward, culminating in a trial. Smith was ultimately convicted on several charges, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. In March 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the deadly events of that December night, bringing a measure of closure to the families of the victims and the community affected by the violence.
