In the quiet evening of September 19, 2024, in Jackson, Tennessee, the life of 41-year-old Ryan Alan Mills was tragically cut short. Emergency services were dispatched to a residence on Susan Cove around 8 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mills in the yard, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was urgently transported to a local hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
Mills, born on June 5, 1983, in Muskingum County, Ohio,
was a father to a son and two daughters. He had attended Southside High School and was a graduate of TCAT in Jackson. Known for his love of sports, he had played center for the Southside Hawks and enjoyed coaching t-ball. He was also an avid fan of the 49ers and was affectionately known by the nickname “Ninety.” His professional life included work in residential construction and, more recently, as a forklift operator at Delta Faucet.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officers at the scene made another discovery. Nearby, they found 29-year-old Arthur Johnson, who was suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Johnson was also taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Following an investigation into the shooting death of Ryan Mills, Arthur Johnson was arrested and charged. On Monday, October 7, 2025, Johnson was charged with First Degree Murder. He is currently being held in custody at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex.
