In the winter of 2015, the life of 33-year-old Harvey Gandy was cut short in his own home in Jackson, Tennessee. On the evening of January 26th, police were called to the Crest View Apartments following a report of a shooting. Inside one of the units, they discovered Mr. Gandy, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Investigators at the scene believed that the shooting had likely occurred earlier in the day.
There were no immediate signs of forced entry into the apartment, leading authorities to suspect that Harvey Gandy may have known his assailant.
The investigation into the homicide progressed, and soon, the Jackson Police Department identified a person of interest: 22-year-old Corey Scott. While initially there was no arrest warrant, police publicly announced they were looking for Scott, believing he possessed valuable information about the case. They released a description of Scott and his last known address, appealing to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding Gandy's death.
Several months later, in July of that same year, there was a significant development in the case. Following continued investigation and the gathering of further leads, an arrest warrant was issued for Corey Scott. Officers with the Jackson Police Department's Street Crimes Unit and Patrol Division located and apprehended him at a residence on Tomlin Street. Corey Scott, then 23, was taken into custody and formally charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Harvey Gandy. He was subsequently booked into the Madison County Jail to await his arraignment in court.
