In the early morning hours of April 9, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Charles Tyus Jr. was tragically cut short in Jackson, Tennessee. A Black/African American male, Tyus was discovered in his vehicle near the intersection of East Deadrick Street and North Hayes Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds. The Jackson Police Department was called to the scene around 4:35 a.m.
following reports of shots being fired in the area.
The initial investigation launched by the Jackson Police Department’s Homicide Unit quickly began to piece together the events of that fatal morning. As authorities delved into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the case. The investigation pointed towards another 19-year-old, Christopher Hines, as the individual allegedly responsible for Tyus's death.
Following the identification of Hines as a suspect, law enforcement, including U.S. Marshals, located and apprehended him at a residence on Taylor Street. Subsequently, Christopher Hines was officially charged in connection with the death of Charles Tyus Jr. He was indicted on the charge of first-degree murder and was arraigned in Circuit Court to face the allegations against him. The case has since been moving through the legal system as the community awaits justice for the young victim.
