On a cold winter evening in Jackson, Tennessee, the life of 24-year-old D’Andre Holmes, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On January 5, 2019, Holmes was fatally shot outside the Magnolia Landing Court Apartments. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, depicted a maroon Crown Victoria driving by Holmes. A passenger then exited the vehicle and shot him multiple times as he lay on the ground before the car sped away from the scene.
The investigation into the first homicide
in Jackson that year led authorities to two suspects. Five days after the shooting, Elijah Garrison, 25, and Tierra Wilson, 24, both from Jackson, were apprehended in Knoxville by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force. Garrison was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Wilson was also initially charged with first-degree murder.
As the legal process unfolded, the case against one of the suspects dissolved. The charges against Tierra Wilson were ultimately dropped due to insufficient evidence. Elijah Garrison, however, faced the full measure of the law. He was held without bond in the Madison County Jail as he awaited his court proceedings. The extensive investigation and subsequent prosecution culminated in Garrison being convicted of first-degree murder for the death of D’Andre Holmes.
