In the autumn of 2021, the life of Brian Lamont Warlick, a 41-year-old Black/African American male from Jackson, Tennessee, was brought to an abrupt and violent end. On November 2, 2021, he was discovered inside a residence on Holly Street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The initial investigation by law enforcement quickly determined that his death was a homicide, setting in motion a search for those responsible for the fatal shooting.
The events that culminated in Warlick's
death appear to have been rooted in a dispute that had been simmering for several weeks with a man named Lavadious McKinney. On that fateful day, the conflict escalated dramatically. McKinney reportedly contacted his grandson, Lazachary Rhodes, instructing him to bring a firearm. While Warlick was at McKinney's home, Rhodes and another individual, Kelvin Polk, were lying in wait in a vehicle parked across the street. Their intent, according to investigators, was to commit a robbery.
At the opportune moment, Rhodes and Polk entered the home to confront and rob Warlick. During the course of this robbery, Lazachary Rhodes allegedly shot Brian Lamont Warlick multiple times. Following the shooting, both Rhodes and Polk fled the scene of the crime. The subsequent police investigation led them to the vehicle used by the suspects, where they recovered three handguns.
