On the final night of 2019, tragedy struck in Nashville, Tennessee, ending the life of 18-year-old Marchellos Devens. He was a Black/African American male who was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds inside a rented Nissan Altima. The vehicle was found stopped on the side of the I-65 South exit ramp to Rosa L. Parks Boulevard at approximately 11:50 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
Emergency responders rushed Devens to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but he did not survive his injuries.
The investigation into his death determined that the shooting had taken place in the parking lot of the Ambrosia Hookah Bar located at 123 Ewing Drive. Prior to the arrival of the police, several men were reportedly seen getting out of the Altima and leaving the area in a different vehicle.
Inside the Nissan Altima, detectives recovered several items of interest to the investigation, including a ski mask, latex gloves, an empty pistol magazine, and shell casings. Despite these findings, a motive for the shooting has not been established. The case remains unsolved, with no arrests having been made and no suspects publicly identified.
The investigation into the murder of Marchellos Devens is ongoing and is being handled by the Nashville Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
