In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the life of 31-year-old Lafayette Marcellus Nance Jr. was tragically cut short. On January 12, 2020, at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at the Peach Tree Apartment Complex. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene in the parking lot. Nance had been fatally shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alongside him, another man, 27-year-old Eric Claybrooks, was found suffering from
gunshot wounds. Claybrooks was in critical condition and had to be airlifted to Regional One Hospital in Memphis for urgent medical care. The investigation that followed pointed to a single suspect responsible for the violent altercation that had unfolded in the eastern section of the apartment complex's parking area.
Authorities identified 32-year-old Marcus Holman of Dyersburg as the individual who allegedly carried out the shooting. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was subsequently located and taken into custody in Carroll County, Mississippi. Holman was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the death of Lafayette Nance and one count of attempted first-degree murder for the shooting of Eric Claybrooks.
