William Milton Pugh, a 49-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, was a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives . On November 21, 1941, Agent Pugh was shot and killed in Dyersburg, Tennessee, while attempting to seize an illegal still operated by Clyde Arwood. During the raid, Arwood ambushed Agent Pugh and shot him with a shotgun. Agent Pugh's partner, James Howes, was also targeted but managed to escape unharmed.
