On the evening of March 31, 2020, Kordell Keshawn Bass, a 22-year-old African American male, was fatally shot in a tragic incident of gun violence in midtown Jackson, Tennessee. Born on October 13, 1997, Kordell was known for his love of sports, particularly football, and music. He was a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Pittsburgh Steelers and had graduated from South Side High School in 2016.
The shooting occurred near Old Hickory Boulevard, where Kordell and another young man, 21-year-old Kortez Kentrell Waller, were both struck by gunfire. Both victims sustained severe gunshot wounds and were rushed to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, both Kordell and Kortez succumbed to their injuries and passed away.
The Jackson Police Department swiftly launched a double homicide investigation into the deaths of the two young men. The community was deeply affected by the senseless loss of two of its members. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in the investigation. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Kordell Keshawn Bass and Kortez Kentrell Waller.
