In the early hours of October 23, 2020, the life of 32-year-old Jacquez Detarrious Perry was tragically cut short in a shooting that occurred in Bolivar, Tennessee. The incident took place around 12:35 a.m. on West Jefferson Street, leaving the community in mourning for a man described as a mentor to many local children. Perry, a male resident of Bolivar, was a graduate of Bolivar Central High School and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology. He was an employee of the City of Bolivar and was known for his passion for basketball, volleyball, and making music.
The investigation into Perry's death quickly led to a suspect. Later that same day, at approximately 3:30 p.m., authorities arrested Bryquez Buggs, a 21-year-old from Ashland, Mississippi.
