On July 4, 2023, in Bolivar, Tennessee, 27-year-old Xavier A. Jones and 28-year-old Calviontae K. McNeal were fatally shot in the 500 block of Johnson Street. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Bolivar Police Department launched an investigation into the incident.

On January 2, 2024, the Hardeman County Grand Jury indicted Wright on two counts of first-degree murder. At the time of the indictment, Wright was already in custody at the Hardeman County Jail on unrelated charges.
