In the spring of 2018, the community of Bolivar, Tennessee, was shaken by the tragic death of 19-year-old Michael Ruiz. A senior at Bolivar Central High School with his whole life ahead of him, he was known as a great student who was set to graduate in May. Born in Rioverde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Ruiz had spent most of his life in Hardeman County. He was a beloved son, brother, and a dedicated employee at his aunt's restaurant, El Ranchito.
