In the late afternoon of a summer day in Suitland, Maryland, a dispute in a community space escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving a young man's life cut short and a community in search of answers. The victim was JR Reid Franklin, a 22-year-old male from the nearby town of Temple Hills. On August 16, 2015, in the parking lot of the Bradbury Recreation Center, Franklin became embroiled in an argument with a group of individuals.
