Robert K. Best, a 24-year-old officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., tragically lost his life on December 15, 1982, in Suitland, Maryland. Officer Best and his partner were working in plainclothes when they observed a stolen vehicle and pursued it into Maryland. The suspects abandoned the vehicle, prompting a foot chase.
