In the early evening of October 9, 2021, violence shattered the quiet of a northwest Shelby County neighborhood, leaving a family grieving and a community in shock. On that Saturday, just before 6:00 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting in the 5000 block of Blacksmith Drive. There they found 33-year-old Maurice Walker suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Regional One in critical condition, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he tragically died.
