On a Sunday evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the lives of two brothers were tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. Twenty-three-year-old Quintarius Newbell and his younger brother, 17-year-old Keianthony Newbell, were fatally wounded on October 9, 2022, in what police believe was an exchange of gunfire at Parkwood Park. Madison Precinct officers responded to a 'shots fired' call around 7 p.m. and discovered the two brothers near the entrance of the park, a short distance from their home. Both Quintarius and Keianthony were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the double homicide led detectives to believe the shooting was the result of a lingering dispute. Over the following months, authorities continued to follow leads that were developed in the immediate aftermath of the incident. The investigation culminated in the arrest of Amarion Franklin, who was 18 years old at the time of his arrest but 17 at the time of the shooting.
Franklin was subsequently charged with two counts of criminal homicide for the deaths of Quintarius and Keianthony Newbell. Due to his age at the time of the offense, he was charged in Juvenile Court. Law enforcement officials have indicated that they anticipate more arrests will be made in connection with the fatal shooting as the investigation continues.
