In the early morning hours of November 4, 2022, Daryl Quintin Shannon, an 18-year-old male from Nashville, Tennessee, was fatally shot while sitting in the driver's seat of a Dodge Journey van. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Paddock at Grandview Apartments on Scruggs Lane. Affectionately known as 'DJ,' he was remembered as a talented young man who could put a smile on anyone's face and had a gift for writing music.
The investigation into his death, led by Homicide Unit
detectives, quickly pointed to a potential drug-related motive. Authorities identified two suspects who had approached Shannon's vehicle in a silver Hyundai just before 5 a.m. Following the shooting, the Hyundai fled the scene and was later found abandoned at the Glastonbury Woods Apartments.
Later that day, police apprehended five individuals who approached the suspect vehicle. One of these individuals, 20-year-old Brandon Waire, was charged with criminal homicide in connection with Shannon's death. Another individual, a 16-year-old, was found in possession of a pistol believed to be the murder weapon and was charged as an accessory after the fact of homicide, along with other gun and drug possession charges. The owner of the Hyundai, 19-year-old Dakiyah Childress, faced charges of tampering with evidence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after allegedly altering her car's appearance to hinder the police investigation.
In February 2023, a second primary suspect, 20-year-old Kendrick William, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of homicide and aggravated robbery for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting. This came after further investigation revealed a second person was in the Dodge with Shannon at the time of the incident. The investigation into the full scope of the events that transpired that morning remains ongoing.
