On May 28, 1985, Thomas Joseph Trench, a 43-year-old male police officer of the Philadelphia Police Department, was tragically shot and killed in an ambush attack while sitting in his patrol car at 17th and Spring Garden streets. Officer Trench, who had served with the department for 11 years, was found slumped over in his car by a police sergeant on patrol.
