In a tragic and deceptive act of violence, 30-year-old Davon Venable, a male resident of Manhattan, was fatally shot on the evening of January 14, 2022. The incident unfolded at his fourth-floor apartment within the Lillian Wald Houses on FDR Drive. Venable was at home with his father when they heard a knock at the door just before 9:57 p.m. An unknown individual on the other side of the door inquired if someone had called for an Uber.
When Venable opened the door to investigate, he was
met by a man dressed in all-black clothing who proceeded to shoot him multiple times in the neck and back. Officers from the 9th Precinct and NYPD PSA 4 responded to a 911 call about the shooting and found Venable with critical injuries. Emergency medical services rushed him to Mount Sinai-Beth Israel Medical Center, but he was ultimately pronounced dead.
Months after the fatal shooting, an arrest was made in the case. On July 29, 2022, police took 28-year-old Jeffrey Faustin of Brooklyn into custody. Authorities allege that Faustin was the individual who posed as a delivery person to lure Venable to the door before shooting him. Faustin was subsequently charged with murder. Court records indicate that he was arraigned on the murder charge and pleaded not guilty. Following his arrest, he was held in federal custody.
