In the cold, early hours of February 4, 1991, a 21-year-old male rookie Philadelphia police officer, Daniel Boyle, was on patrol when he initiated a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle. This routine stop in North Philadelphia would tragically be his last. The driver of the car, Edward Bracey, who was 27 at the time and armed with a 9mm handgun, was determined not to be apprehended. As Officer Boyle approached, Bracey exited the stolen vehicle and opened fire.
