In the cool of a late autumn evening, tragedy befell a young man from Turtle Creek, a suburb of Pittsburgh. Darnell Lamont Jones, a 28-year-old Black male, was found lying alongside a road in Wilkinsburg on Saturday, October 31, 2015. His life had been cut short by gunfire in a fatal shooting that occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 2000 block of Laketon Road, not far from Turner Elementary School.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Jones surrounded by shell
casings, a stark testament to the violence that had just unfolded. The Allegheny County medical examiner's office later confirmed his identity. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, both county and Wilkinsburg police began their search for a suspect who was believed to have fled the area on foot.
