In the midst of a busy downtown Pittsburgh afternoon, a young man's life was abruptly cut short. Twenty-three-year-old Eugene Nance was standing near the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Seventh Street on January 19, 2023, when gunfire erupted. The incident, which unfolded around 2:15 p.m. near a bustling light rail station, sent waves of panic through the area as Nance sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and leg.
