On March 13, 2016, Taevon Harris, a 15-year-old African American boy from Homestead, PA, was tragically shot and killed in what was determined to be an apparent murder-suicide. Harris was taking out the trash when he was shot multiple times by his 19-year-old neighbor, Ryzel Barrett. Barrett then proceeded to shoot his stepfather before turning the gun on himself. Harris' family stated that they were unaware of any ongoing disputes between Taevon and Barrett.
