On the morning of May 20, 2015, a sense of normalcy was shattered in Homestead, Pennsylvania, when 21-year-old Jaymon Gandy, a Black/African American male, was fatally shot. Gandy was walking down Mifflin Street when a dark-colored car approached him shortly before 10:35 a.m. Witnesses reported that at least two individuals exited the vehicle and opened fire, unleashing as many as 10 shots. Gandy was found lying in the road, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds within minutes.
