In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Philadelphia, on November 5, 2017, the life of 16-year-old Marquez Houston was tragically cut short. A Black male, Houston was an honor roll student and a triplet. Just after midnight, at approximately 12:13 a.m., Philadelphia Police Officers were called to the 2700 block of North 19th Street. There, they discovered Marquez Houston lying in the street, having sustained a gunshot wound to his head.
Despite the immediate response and medical
attention at the scene, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. Another young man, a 20-year-old, was also a victim of the shooting, suffering a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a hospital and was listed in stable condition. It is believed that Houston was not the intended target of the shooting. He had been standing with friends on his front porch in North Philadelphia when the incident occurred.
The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear, and as of now, the case is still unsolved. Authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the murder of Marquez Houston, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the homicide and has urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
