In the quiet town of Shelton, Washington, a young life was abruptly cut short on the evening of February 3, 2025. Izaiah Fryer, a 19-year-old Caucasian male, was at his home on May Avenue, simply watching a movie, when his life came to a violent end. At approximately 10:15 p.m., the sound of gunshots shattered the neighborhood's tranquility. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Izaiah deceased inside his residence from a fatal gunshot wound.
This sudden act of violence left a family and a community in profound grief.
The investigation into Izaiah's death quickly led to the identification of two suspects: 18-year-old Adrian E. Martinez-Lawson and 19-year-old Jack W. Evans. According to court documents, Martinez-Lawson was the one who allegedly shot Fryer while Evans was present. Witnesses, including Izaiah's mother, were able to identify both suspects with the help of surveillance footage. It is believed that Martinez-Lawson and Izaiah had a previous disagreement. Following the shooting, the two suspects fled the scene on foot, prompting a manhunt.
The search for the suspects concluded the following day, February 4, 2025. One of the suspects, after a standoff with law enforcement that included a SWAT team response, was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a metal shop on Johns Prairie Road, about four miles from the scene of the crime. The other suspect was also apprehended without incident later that day. Both Adrian E. Martinez-Lawson and Jack W. Evans were arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder and first-degree burglary.
In the wake of this tragedy, the Shelton community rallied together to support Izaiah's grieving family, which includes his mother and four siblings. A memorial service held at the Island Lake boat launch saw an outpouring of support, with over 100 people gathering to honor his memory. Multiple fundraising efforts were also established to help his parents with the unexpected funeral expenses and to provide them with support during this immensely difficult time.
