In the afternoon hours of a Monday in West Philadelphia, the life of 16-year-old Bahsil Garrison, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On November 8, 2021, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the sounds of gunfire echoed near the intersection of Westminster and Belmont Avenues. Bahsil was reportedly leaving school and waiting at a bus stop, an area bustling with children at that time of day, when the shooting erupted.
A Philadelphia police officer in the vicinity heard the multiple gunshots
and discovered Bahsil lying unresponsive in the street on the 900 block of Belmont Avenue. He had sustained several gunshot wounds to his chest. The officer acted swiftly, placing the teenager in their patrol vehicle and rushing him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Despite the rapid response and medical efforts, Bahsil succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital that same afternoon.
Another teenager, a 17-year-old male, was also a victim in this double shooting. He suffered a single gunshot wound to his arm and was located at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
In the wake of the violence that claimed Bahsil Garrison's life, the Philadelphia Police Department launched an investigation. Streets in the area were cordoned off as detectives canvassed the scene for evidence and witnesses. However, despite these efforts, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The case remains an unsolved homicide, and authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for this fatal shooting.
