On a Friday evening in Philadelphia, 54-year-old Mark Albertson's life was cut short in a fatal encounter. The incident unfolded on June 17, 2022, on the 2400 block of Rhawn Street. Responding to a call about a person with a gun just before 10 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers discovered Albertson lying in the street with a gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced him deceased.
Reports from that night indicate that the deadly confrontation began when a woman
approached the driver of a white Jeep at the intersection of Rhawn Street and Roosevelt Boulevard to ask for money. The driver responded with insults, prompting Albertson, who was with the woman, to intervene. Albertson reportedly threatened the driver with a can of hornet spray, at which point the driver is believed to have pulled out a gun and shot him. It remains unclear if Albertson had used the spray before he was shot.
In the days following the shooting, police identified Albertson, who was experiencing homelessness, as the victim. The investigation progressed quickly, and on June 22, 2022, a suspect was arrested in connection with his death. The case has been marked as solved, with the legal proceedings pending trial.
