In the late hours of a Thursday in North Philadelphia, tragedy struck on the 1300 block of West Somerset Street. It was around 11 p.m. on November 10, 2022, when 25-year-old Nicholas Brown, a Black male, was seated in a parked GMC Yukon with another man of the same age. Suddenly, another vehicle pulled alongside them, and a barrage of bullets shattered the night's quiet.
The passenger side of the SUV was riddled with approximately 15 bullet holes, a testament to the violence of the
attack. In the aftermath, the driver, despite being wounded with gunshots to his back and leg, managed to drive himself and Brown to the hospital. While the driver was listed in stable condition, Nicholas Brown succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Philadelphia police launched an investigation into the deadly drive-by shooting. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide, and a motive for the shooting remained unclear to authorities.
