In the Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia on the night of Saturday, August 27, 2016, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm. When police responded to calls about a person with a gun on the 1700 block of North Newkirk Street around 9:25 p.m., they found 25-year-old Nashawn Jones lying on the sidewalk, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
