On a Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2022, a burst of violence shattered the weekend peace in a Reading, Pennsylvania, shopping center parking lot. Emmanuel Negrón, a 36-year-old man, was in the parking lot of the Reading Plaza Super Market, located at North 6th Street and Greenwich Street, when he was shot. First responders were called to the scene at approximately 1:45 p.m. and found Mr. Negrón with a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Reading Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Emmanuel Negrón succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital. The incident drew a significant police presence, with a portion of the parking lot and the 500 block of North 6th Street being cordoned off for several hours as investigators processed the crime scene. More than 40 evidence markers were visible in the parking lot, indicating the scale of the investigation.
Initial reports from the scene suggested that the person responsible for the shooting had fled before police arrived. As of the following day, authorities had not released any detailed information about the circumstances leading to the shooting or a description of any suspect. The Reading Police Department has asked for the public's help, requesting that anyone with information regarding the incident come forward and contact them or to provide anonymous tips through Crime Alert Berks County.
