In the early morning hours of October 16, 2022, a fatal shooting occurred outside a bar in Muhlenberg Township, Pennsylvania, claiming the life of 32-year-old Antonio Dennard, a male who had formerly played in the NFL. The incident took place in the parking lot of Legends Bar and Restaurant. Dennard was transported to Reading Hospital with gunshot wounds but was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. The coroner's office later ruled his death a homicide.

The investigation into Dennard's death led authorities to identify a suspect. Over a week after the shooting, an arrest warrant was issued for Jose Daniel Pizarro of Reading. For more than a year, Pizarro remained at large. Then, on March 5, 2024, members of the United States Marshall's Fugitive Task Force and the New York City Police Department located and arrested him inside an apartment building in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. At the time of his arrest, Pizarro was 26 years old.

Following his capture, Pizarro was transported to the NYPD's 120th Precinct for processing and awaited extradition back to Pennsylvania to face charges related to Dennard's death. The charges filed against him include first- and third-degree murder, as well as aggravated assault. Pizarro's identification as a suspect was reportedly aided by the discovery of his fingerprints on Dennard's car outside the bar.
