In the early morning hours of September 22, 2022, Everett Beauregard, a 23-year-old White male, was walking home alone in Philadelphia after a night out with friends. A recent graduate of Temple University, he had his whole life ahead of him, with plans to pursue an MBA. As he made his way along the 400 block of North 35th Street, just a block from his apartment, his life was cut tragically short in a seemingly random and unprovoked act of violence.
Surveillance footage from that night
captured the chilling moments leading up to the shooting. A suspect, who had been lingering in the area for about an hour, is seen walking past Beauregard before abruptly turning and firing a single shot into the back of his neck. The gunman then fled, firing another shot as he ran. There was no interaction, no argument, and no robbery; Beauregard still had his wallet on him when police arrived. He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Philadelphia Police Department launched an investigation into the senseless killing, initially believing it to be a robbery before ruling that motive out. They released surveillance video of the suspect, a man wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, in the hopes that someone from the public could identify him. A $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest was also offered. Investigators later released footage of a vehicle of interest, described as a late 1990s to early 2000s two-toned, green-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Despite the available footage and a public appeal for information, no arrests have been made in the case. The murder of Everett Beauregard remains unsolved, leaving his family and community searching for answers and grappling with the loss of a bright and promising young man. His parents have spoken publicly about their enduring grief and their hope that the person responsible will be brought to justice.
