On April 16, 2023, at approximately 12:28 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 6400 block of Lawndale Street in the Lawndale section of Philadelphia. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Taj Sledge lying outside his residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body. Officers immediately transported him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead that afternoon.
The neighborhood, typically described by residents as quiet, was shaken by the incident. Neighbors expressed shock and sorrow over the loss. One resident, Larry Coffie, who had known Sledge for about five years, mentioned that Sledge had attended school with his child. Coffie remarked, "It's going to kill my son when I tell him."
As of now, the investigation into Sledge's murder remains active and ongoing. No weapons have been recovered from the scene, and no arrests have been made. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information from the public to aid in identifying the person or persons responsible for this crime.
