In the South Philadelphia neighborhood on a Wednesday evening, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. On June 26, 2024, Saadiq Abdul-Aziz, a 21-year-old male, was shot in the chest near the corner of South 23rd and Jackson streets. The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m., a time when the city was still alive with the sounds of early summer.
After being struck by the bullet, Abdul-Aziz managed to run into a nearby home on the 2200 block of South 23rd Street, where he was discovered in the living room.
Responding to reports of a shooting and a person with a gun, Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene to find Abdul-Aziz critically wounded. They swiftly transported him to Presbyterian Medical Center, but his injury was too severe. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead at 9:16 p.m. that same evening.
The investigation into the death of Saadiq Abdul-Aziz is ongoing. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the weapon used in the commission of the crime has not been recovered. The Philadelphia police continue to seek information from the public that could lead to the apprehension of any and all suspects involved in this fatal shooting.
