Jayla's partner, Justine Harris, filed a Change.org petition demanding more severe charges for Orniesha Levinson, seeking to change the charge from
manslaughter to aggravated murder.
The case drew significant attention, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $2000 for Jayla's funeral costs and a gun memorial site where over 500 virtual candles were lit in her honor. The New York City Anti-Violence Project also mourned her death and highlighted the need to address violence within LGBTQ communities.
