Jermaine Cottrell Jr., a 23-year-old African American male from Cleveland, OH, tragically died on April 29, 2017, from a gunshot wound to the head. He was found on the ground on East 131st Street and Caine Avenue, being helped by a woman. According to police reports, Cottrell and two others were inside a vehicle that crashed into a building after exchanging gunfire with a man walking on the street. The man returned fire, and Cottrell was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that another man named "Butter," who was also in the vehicle, fled the scene on foot. Cleveland police have been actively seeking leads to solve the case and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
In connection with Cottrell's death, Jamall Lewis was convicted of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, attempted murder, and other charges. Lewis, along with Ramel Lee and Ky’Tric Shropshire, was indicted in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of Regina Neal and injuries to Charles Elder on April 15, 2013. Lewis received a conviction for his involvement in the shooting, which was affirmed by the Court of Appeals of Ohio.
