Miriam Johnson, a 31-year-old woman from Cleveland Heights, tragically lost her life to violence on March 22, 2018. She was found dead in a garbage can at an abandoned home on Chamberlain Avenue near East 73rd Street. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner determined that Miriam died from a gunshot wound to the head, along with skull and brain injuries, as well as sharp force injuries to her trunk and extremities.
Her death was ruled a homicide.
Miriam was reported missing on February 26, 2018, and her body was discovered on March 22, 2018. The investigation into her death led to the arrest of two suspects. Yaphet Bradley, Miriam's ex-boyfriend and the father of three of her four children, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated murder. Bradley later admitted to killing Miriam and stuffing her body in the garbage can. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A second suspect, Calvin Young, was also arrested and charged with tampering with evidence, obstructing official business, and abuse of a corpse. Young pleaded guilty to his charges and was sentenced to prison. The investigation revealed that Bradley and Young had attempted to clean up the crime scene and dispose of Miriam's body.
Miriam's family expressed their gratitude to the Cleveland Heights Police Department, the U.S. Marshals, and the task force for their dedication to finding those responsible for her death. They also thanked their friends, family, and the city of Cleveland for their support during the difficult time.
