Sanders leaves behind her 7-month-old daughter, Serenity, who was discovered unharmed in a stroller nearby.
Law enforcement officials quickly identified the suspect as 23-year-old Shamar Summerall. According to Sanders' mother, Sherry Brown, Sanders and Summerall had been in a relationship, and Brown had previously warned her daughter about his abusive behavior. Brown recounted a chilling phone call she received from Sanders during the altercation, in which she could hear Summerall yelling in the background. Sanders repeatedly told him to stop grabbing her, and moments later, gunshots rang out, followed by silence.
Following the shooting, authorities launched a search for Summerall. Early the next morning, Mayfield Heights police discovered his body in Mayfield Heights South Park. Officials reported that he had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, with a handgun found near him. The tragic sequence of events left Sanders' family devastated, with Brown now taking on the responsibility of raising her granddaughter, Serenity.
Sanders' funeral services were scheduled for March 22, 2025, at Everlasting Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, following a public viewing on March 21. The loss of Sanders has deeply impacted her community, with loved ones mourning the young mother and expressing sorrow over the circumstances surrounding her death.
