On May 8, 2024, Cleveland firefighters responded to a blaze in the 1700 block of East 88th Place. While extinguishing the fire, they discovered a woman upstairs who had died from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was later identified as 44-year-old April Cost.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 37-year-old Michael H. Hurley as a suspect in the case. On October 4, 2024, members of the U.S.
Marshals Service's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Hurley at a residence in the 2700 block of Lancashire Road in Cleveland Heights. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated murder.
The arrest was the result of collaborative efforts between the Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
