Do you know who killed Aliza Sherman? Aliza Sherman, a 53-year-old fertility nurse at the Cleveland Clinic, was tragically murdered on March 24, 2013, in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Aliza was on her way to meet with her divorce attorney at 75 Erieview Plaza when she was brutally attacked and stabbed 11 times—once in her right arm, twice in the neck, and eight times in the back. The attack occurred in broad daylight, just 30 feet away from the entrance of her attorney’s office.
Despite the presence of security cameras, the footage only showed a hooded figure fleeing the scene, making it impossible to identify the attacker due to the poor quality of the video and the disguise worn by the assailant.
Immediately following the attack, a bystander who heard Aliza's cries for help called 911, but her injuries were too severe, and she was pronounced dead at MetroHealth Medical Center shortly thereafter. The investigation concluded that the motive was not robbery since none of her belongings, including jewelry, had been taken. The murder weapon was never found, and the police were left to investigate potential motives connected to her personal life.
At the time of her death, Aliza was embroiled in a contentious divorce with her husband of nearly 30 years, Sanford Sherman. The proceedings had been turbulent, with allegations of infidelity, financial disputes, and even concerns for Aliza's safety. Suspicion also surrounded her attorney, Gregory Moore, who was scheduled to meet with her at the time of the murder. Moore was later indicted for falsifying his whereabouts during the time of the murder and for unrelated charges of making bomb threats to courthouses where he was scheduled to appear. Despite these developments, no one has been directly charged for Aliza’s murder.
In recent years, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has taken over the case, offering a new perspective in the hopes of uncovering new leads. A reward of $100,000 remains available for anyone with information that could lead to an arrest. Aliza's family, including her daughter Jennifer, continues to fight for justice, organizing vigils and memorials to keep her memory alive and draw attention to the unsolved case. The family has expressed their hope that continued efforts and public attention will eventually bring her killer to justice. The Cleveland Police Department, alongside the BCI, remains committed to solving the case and providing closure to her loved ones.
