Shianne L. Massey was a beautiful soul and the life of the party, a young woman whose presence and smile could fill a room. The 23-year-old female was deeply loved, and her family remembers her as outgoing, smart, and fun. Her cousin recalled that even when Shianne made you mad, she would find a way to make you laugh. She was born on December 16, 2002, and her absence has left a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends.
On the morning of Saturday, October 3, 2026, Shianne
and her mother, Fredille McPherson, made plans to go to brunch. "The last time I talked to my daughter — it was at 9:55 a.m. — she said, 'Mommy, let's go to brunch,'" McPherson later recalled. Her mother intended to pick her up after running an errand, but when she arrived, Shianne did not answer her calls or messages. As hours passed with no word, concern grew into a dreadful fear. "I said, 'Something is not right,'" McPherson said. She contacted the management of her daughter’s apartment building on Euclid Avenue and requested a welfare check, staying on the phone as a maintenance worker went to the apartment. "He opened up the door, he was like, 'Ma'am, it's a lady on the floor, unresponsive,'" McPherson recounted.
Just after midnight on Sunday, October 4, Cleveland police officers were dispatched to the apartment in the 7700 block of Euclid Avenue for a report of "unknown trouble." Inside, they met with Cleveland EMS and firefighters who had already located Shianne. She was suffering from a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cleveland Police Homicide Unit began an investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect: 20-year-old Ke'Yon Sanchez Moore. A warrant for murder was issued by the Cleveland Division of Police. Court records revealed a troubled history between Moore and Shianne. Investigators had connected Moore to a September 15 incident where he was accused of strangling her. He was arrested and indicted on two felony counts of strangulation and one misdemeanor count of assault, but after posting a $7,500 bond, he was released from jail on September 18. He was also a suspect in an armed carjacking that occurred just two days after his release.
On Tuesday, October 13, members of the U.S. Marshals-led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force tracked Moore to a home in the 3500 block of East 120th Street to arrest him on an aggravated robbery warrant. When officers arrived around 8:00 a.m., they confirmed Moore was inside but he refused to surrender, beginning an hourslong standoff. During the tense confrontation, Moore fired multiple rounds at police robots and toward officers on two separate occasions. Negotiators and the Cuyahoga County SWAT team were on scene, attempting to secure a peaceful surrender. At approximately 1:00 p.m., another gunshot was heard from inside the house. Officers determined Moore had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The case is considered closed, with the primary suspect deceased. Shianne’s family was left heartbroken and angry, demanding justice that now could not be fully realized in a courtroom. "She’s priceless," her aunt, Carla Mcpherson, said in the days after the murder. "And we gotta have justice for Shianne. I’m very angry. Our whole family is broken. We’re not sleeping or eating." The family's grief was immense. "She has siblings, family, aunts, uncles that love her dearly," a cousin said. "She did not deserve this at all."
In the wake of her death, Shianne’s mother started a GoFundMe campaign titled "A Beautiful Homegoing for Shi'Anne Lashay Massey" to help with funeral expenses. "My beautiful, sweet princess, Shi'Anne Lashay Massey, gained her wings far earlier than any of us could have ever expected," her mother wrote. "At only 24 years old, Shi'Anne had so much life ahead of her... We love you forever, Shi'Anne." The family held a viewing on October 15 at a funeral home in Maple Heights and planned a balloon release to honor her memory. As of October 2026, the investigation was concluded following the death of the suspect.
