On May 6, 2019, 23-year-old William D. Jones, a young African American man, was found with a gunshot wound at The Oaks at Silver Ridge apartment complex in High Point, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 12:32 a.m. when officers responded to several reports of a shooting at the location. Jones was discovered lying in the parking lot, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
