Simmie Junior Bethea, a 40-year-old African American man, tragically lost his life on November 11, 2017, in High Point, North Carolina. Born on April 30, 1977, in Dillon, South Carolina, Simmie was a resident of Georgia at the time of his passing. He was the owner and operator of McCall’s Lawn Service and had graduated from Andrews High School in the class of 1996.
On the night of his death, Simmie Bethea was at his apartment on the 2400 block of Tyson Street when two armed suspects
broke into his home. The suspects forced their way into the apartment with the intent to rob him. During the robbery, Simmie was shot in the hand and stomach. Despite his injuries, he followed the suspects into the parking lot, where he was shot again before returning to his apartment to call the police.
Simmie was taken to High Point Regional Hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The High Point Police Department investigated the incident, interviewing witnesses and urging anyone with additional information to come forward. However, no arrests have been announced in connection with the case.
The tragic death of Simmie Junior Bethea marked the 17th homicide in High Point for the year 2017. The community was left in shock and mourning, as they remembered Simmie for his contributions to the local area and his dedication to his lawn service business.
